722 Pembroke Street 722 Pembroke Street

Address: 722 Pembroke Street
Built: c. 1904
1912 householder:

In 2012, the exterior of this Edwardian-era dwelling retained many of its original features and was described in our Burnside Gorge heritage inventory as follows:

This simple but attractive residence has a front box bay window that is covered by a pent roof. A couple of sash windows peer from the front gable. A plumbing permit was issued for the property in May 1904, so the house was probably completed before that date.

Charles Alfred Boyce, a carpenter who worked for the firm of Moore-Whittington in Rock Bay, lived here in 1908. In 1912, this was the home of another Rock Bay worker, Edward Kruse. He was employed as a driver for Thorpe's soda water and syrup factory on David Street.

The building was altered substantially in 2015, when a third floor was added into the former pent roof and a door replaced the front box bay window. About the same time, the building next door at 720 Pembroke Street was demolished. The site appears to be a gated parking lot for residents of this building.
