Address: 3107 Washington Avenue
Built: c. 1910
1912 householder: Ernest S. Clare, streetcar motorman
Photo credit: Vicki Jackson, June 2012In 1911 this was the home home of Ernest S. Clare, a 33 year old streetcar motorman, and Mary Moore, a 34 year old "housekeeper." They both immigrated to Canada in 1906, but we have not yet determined how they were related or linked to each other in this household. In 1914, this was the home of another streetcar motorman, Ernest Rutherford, who lived here until about 1918. Presently, we know very little about this house and its occupants. More research and information to follow! Meantime, Washington Avenue seems to have been a favourite location for BC Electric Railway motorneers and conductors. Dunedin Street and Manchester Road on the south side of Cecelia Ravine were also popular with Victoria's streetcar fraternity.
