532 Cecelia Road

Address: 532 Cecelia Road
Built: 1912-1913
1913 householder: Frederick Hauck, bookkeeper

This house was built towards the end of 1912. It has a nearly full-width porch with chamfered columns and a box bay on the right side of the house. A pent roof covers the porch and defines the front gable. A decorative finial adorns the top of the gable. All in all, this is a very attractive home. It was ready for occupants when a plumbing permit was issued for the dwelling on 16 January 1913. The permit was issued to a Mr. Kennedy, who may have built it as a speculative investment. It may have been vacant for a while, but in 1914 it was the home of the Hauck family. Frederick Hauck, 65 years old, came to Canada from England in 1895; he was a book bookkeeper for Popham Brothers and the Ormond Biscuit factory in Vic West. Mary J. Hauck, 45 years old, came from England in 1889, and was a home-maker. Their daughter, Winifred, was 19 years old, a teacher at the newly built Quadra School.
