The house stands at the corner of Carroll Street and Doric Street, a short street that connects to Albany Street. This short street was called Arbutus Street in 1912.

J. W. Herman was the owner and resident of this house in 1912. He was a lineman for the BC Electric Railway Company. Several of his neighbours were employed as streetcar drivers and conductors by this company.
